Couldn't Make the Event Day?
We will have your tree saplings on hold until Friday, April 26th at 2:30 pm. To pick up your tree saplings, please arrive at room 102 at Los Gatos High School, sometime between 2:30 and 3:00pm, Monday- Friday of this week. Room 102 is in the science building at the back of the school, near the football field and gym. Please follow the arrows on the map to find the room. Please expect traffic around this time, and plan accordingly. If you are unable to come at any of these times please contact us as soon as possible to arrange another time.
Once you arrive at the location, one of our club members or teacher will help you. You will receive your tree sapling(s) and an instruction pamphlet. We will also provide a bag if you need one. For more information on sapling size, please refer down below.

About the Event:
From just the Scope 1 calculations of gas and electricity alone, Los Gatos High School annually emits 7880.4 tons of carbon emissions. To offset some of our massive carbon emission, the Environmental Outreach Club in Los Gatos High School is partnering with 501(c)(3) Tree-Plenish to host a tree-planting event with the objective of planting enough saplings to compensate for our school’s energy consumption. Through planting our ultimate goal of 985 saplings, we would be able to absorb 15% of our annual scope 1 CO2 emissions within 50 years. The tree saplings would be picked-up at a location on event day, and participants of this event could plant the saplings in their property. Volunteers at the event would provide information on how to take care of the saplings. The saplings would be free or be at a reduced cost from the initial $12 per tree, as sponsors would fund this event.

Types of Trees at the Event
Santina Cherry

The sapling themselves will be dormant, bare-root saplings

They range between 4 ft. to around 5"10 when you get them as saplings.

Royal Blenheim Apricot

These will be around 3 ft. high and about 4 cm in diameter, as saplings.

The Royal Blenheim apricot tree can reach a height of 15 to 20 feet. It produces medium-sized apricots.

Blenheim apricot trees thrive in Mediterranean climates with warm, dry summers and mild winters.

They require full sun exposure and well-drained soil.

Sapling Information
Saplings will come as bare-root saplings. This means they are dormant until they are planted and typically bloom 4-6 weeks after being planted. Here is an example of what bare-root saplings look like.

Mina Nakamura is currently a junior at Los Gatos High School, and has been a member of Environmental Outreach Club since freshman year. She is also an avid member in Silicon Valley Youth Climate Action. Starting March of 2024, she is also conducting a Climate Literacy Program for youth in her community.
